As our corporate name suggests, the heart of our program rests with the mares. We, like so many other breeders, put great value on the influence the dams bring to their offspring. That appreciation of the mares’ contribution directed our choice of breeding stock from the start. At the time we defined our mission and set out to establish a solid breeding herd, our approach was to research fillies by motherlines as well as by sire. We never could have done this without the advice of Dr. Ludwig Christmann, Deputy Breeding Director of the Verband hannoverscher Warmblutzuechter e.V.

It is relatively easy to acquire information on sires, whose records of performance and production are generally well documented. We made use of those records wherever available and, in some cases, it was all we had to follow. Since the background of the mare family is a more arcane area of knowledge, it is less readily accessible to those who are just beginning to decode the information provided by a pedigree. For that, one requires the assistance of a guide who has gained knowledge through years of experience. Ludwig Christmann was such a guide, pointing us repeatedly to the daughters from strong motherlines as we built our breeding band. The strength of our breeding program rests on that firm foundation provided through Ludwig’s generous assistance.

We’ve also benefited from the advice of German breeders and friends, Barbara Dzaack and the Clasen family, for whom rattling off the accomplishments of the dam line of any given horse comes as readily as reading the names printed on the pedigree.

Given this focus on the mares, it isn’t too surprising that they should be at the heart of this website, as well. Each mare’s page provides vital statistics at a glance: pedigree, inspection scores, photographs and list of produce. Those are the basics. The copy in the editorial section of the page tells you more about the horse, her antecedents and descendents. Clicking on any of the names highlighted on the page will take you to a photograph and information on that particular relative. Any horse cited anywhere on this website can be found through the Mare Pages and all other pages will lead back to them. As in our breeding program, the mares are the alpha and omega.

How It Works

Scroll over a mare’s name in the menu and a Quickview will appear in the left box. Click on the name in the menu and that mare’s page will appear on the screen.
