Lorelei comes from a mare family that traces back to the Shagya XXII daughter Salve. This strong motherline, developed by the Heemke family in Kreepen, has contributed numerous state's premium daughters, top-priced auction horses and stallions to the breed. Great-grandam Alina is the grandam of the jumper sire Wanderer. Lorelei’s mother, Wischnu, is dam of Fontainebleu, the 1992 Verden licensing winner who is now earning attention as a top-placing competitor in FEI dressage. The stallions Lyriker and Arkansas also come from this mare line.
Lorelei is a modern, long-legged mare with good gaits–she was Mare Champion, Dressage at Devon 1994. She is also a capable jumper, another legacy from her versatile sporthorse motherline. This all-around talent is reflected in the directions taken by her offspring.
Her first foal, Fifth Business, owned by Bobby and Joyce Ainsworth, is competing in hunters and jumpers. Lorelei's second son, Aldebaran, was site champion at his inspection, and was purchased by Lynn and Michael Salewski as a dressage/stallion prospect. In 2000, Mabb received the award for the highest MPT score in the US, achieving a 10 in the rideability category.
The most dramatic underscoring of the versatility Lorelei imparts to her offspring can be found in the examples from 1999. Through the agency of embryo transfer, Lorelei was the dam of two foals born in that year. Agenor was purchased by Pamela Levy, a rearer of dressage prospects at her High Flight Farm in Locust Grove, GA. Crescendo V, owned by Dr. Vito del Vento of Paeonian Springs, VA, is headed toward a career in jumping. Both owners find the young horses suitable to their disciplines and report they are keeping on track for their intended careers.
Mabb had a colt in 2003 securing her Elite Mare title; after weaning, she started training for a show career and sold to Suzie Quest. Andromache, site champion at her 2000 AHS/VhW Inspection and Reserve Filly Champion at the 2003 Morven Park Spring Breed Show, has earned her EMC and is of breeding age. It is she that we hope will be the primary carrier of this family’s versatility into the next generation.
