Wiccan was spotted in Germany as an energetic suckling who just wouldn’t stop trotting, galloping and bucking around her complacent dam. The stallion rearer who was presenting the lively filly kept referring to the “little cannibal,” causing us to wonder just what else she did. The confusion was lifted when we learned he had meant to say “little cannonball.” That we could understand. Wiccan's energy was–and still is–boundless. We would have purchased her on the spot even if we hadn’t known of the performance records in dressage of both dam and grandam. That heritage of rideability tempered the cheeky show-off quality and proved itself later when Sherra Kosch rode Wiccan to an excellent result at her mare performance test.

Wiccan’s strong personality and brilliance transmit to her equally energetic foals. Each of her sons has been “king” of his foal group with no doubts in his mind as to his superiority to the others. These foals have also displayed a special interest in people as an audience for which they eagerly show off their talents and turn on the charm.

Since her life as a broodmare was delayed by a period during which she was on riding lease for a young girl, we worried that Wiccan might not produce a daughter before her breeding career was over. We now have a charming black filly by Dauphin from this small-sized, big-hearted dynamo and she could be the carrier of her mother's legacy in our future broodmare band. In the meantime, son Ridley is being raised by owner Chris Rush as a pony stallion candidate.
