Windham’s breeder, Hans-Heinrich Schmidt, is also the breeder of Grundstein. In 1992, Windham’s dam, Grandella, was champion of the 4-year old group at the the Louis-Wiegels-Schau. Along with her mother, Wakonda, and grandam, Wanessa, Grandella captured the family prize at that same show. Two years later this mare family took the top prize at the Ratje Niebuhr-Schau.
Always bred and never shown, Windham has produced five foals for Marefield to date. Firstborn Aethon is in training for owner Elizabeth Sea of Leesburg, VA. Racine is the property of Bob Orton and Sherra Kosch who were raising him as a stallion prospect until they decided they would have more fun with him as their big-time dressage prospect. Rani was called back to the final filly ring at her 2000 foal inspection where Dr. Jochen Wilkens cited her as a good mover and the “best type” of the group, proof of the heritage from her motherline. Catalan sold in 2002 to Karen Serafin of Mitchellville, MD. In 2004, Windhover produced a Dauphin daughter who looks as if she will be the carrier of her dam's heritage in the future breeding herd.
