Daalny’s grandam, Papermoon, was a champion of the 1990 Bundestutenschau; her dam, Fabia, was winner of the Bruchhausen-Vilsen Mare Show in 1993. Both are products of the Groenwohldhof breeding program, coming from a motherline that also produced the stallions Pik Donnerhall and Don Campione.

Fabia quickly established herself as a foundation mare for Marefield–especially when bred to Donnerhall–by producing an SPS daughter, Deleila (owned by Joerg and Isabel Clasen), and Dauphin, a licensed stallion leased by Celle.

As Fabia's firstborn, Daalny offered the initial proof of the successful cross with Donnerhall. Marefield has two other daughters from that match–Diotima and Dauphine–to ensure the continuation of what we believe will be a significant motherline. Another Fabia daughter, Folie (by Fabriano), owned by Chris Rush, also proved herself when she earned her elite mare candidacy by winning both her inspection and MPT at Hilton Farm in 2002. The following year, Folie qualified for the US National FEI 5-Year Old Championships with the highest score for Region I and an average score that was 2nd highest in the nation.

Also in 2003, the earlier-mentioned Diotima further demonstrated the rideability of this line by earning the 1st place standing in the nation in the USDF 3-year-old filly Materiale Awards (with an average score of 81%) under rider/trainer Erin Sweeney. Additionally, she was 2nd in the US for 3-year-old fillies, USDF Sport Horse Breeding Division with an average of 81.4%. Diotima also earned her EMC at the 2003 Hilton Farm AHS/VhW Inspection. The youngest of the full sisters, Dauphine, tied for 5th nationally in the 2003 2-year-old fillies, USDF Sport Horse Breeding Division with an average of 75.3%.

Although not very large herself, Daalny has produced two colts who have developed into tall young horses with sizeable frames. Joanne Lawrence, owner of firstborn Rhaebus, says that this 16.3+H youngster is the “best purchase” she has ever made. The 17+H Cotignac, owned by Jenny Rumburg, started his show career at the June 2003 Morven Park Breed Show where he won the Hanoverian IBC, mature division and, under rider/trainer Carole Lawrence, also won the materiale class for 4- & 5-year-old colts and geldings.

The easy-going temperament and rideability apparent in her siblings and offspring are hallmarks of this line that extend to Daalny herself. Between foal bearing, Daalny was competed by fellow breeder Laura Whitford, who also successfully rode her through the mare performance test in 2000. Together this duo competed at Training Level that year, receiving an average score of 71%, which earned them the VADA/NOVA Chapter Year-end Award and 4th-place ranking in the state of Virginia.

In 2002, Daalny had her first filly, Folavril. We are looking forward to the time when this typey daughter will join the Marefield breeding program as a third-generation representative of the Fabia mare family. 2003 brought another daughter; Rosinanta (by Ruiz Soler) is co-owned by Laura Whitford who anticipates competing her as she did the dam before the mare joins the Shadow Fox and Marefield breeding programs.
