Marefield horses are represented as accurately and honestly as our experience of the animal and our access to past records permit so don’t expect to find the “perfect horse” in the following descriptions. We hope our visitors will remember as they compare our presentations and our products that the perfect horse has not yet been discovered. We also hope that a faithful and objective description will contribute to matching the right horse with just the right person. That is very important to us for the benefit of the buyer and for the sake of the horse.

All X-rays and/or medical files pertinent to any recognized problem will be made available upon request to the best of our ability to provide them.

The listed price for each horse includes the fee for Marefield’s agents. Agents for buyers are most certainly welcome and eagerly invited to view, evaluate and try out the sales horses where appropriate. The fees of any outside agents, however, are strictly between those agents and their employers, i.e. the buyers.

Aragon (Arrian/Ramiro's Bube/Domingo)

$10,000

DOB: 5/29/03    Bay  Filly
Contact: Marefield Meadows, marefield@earthlink.net

Sire Arrian was purchased from the 1994 Verden Licensing where he earned notice and coverage in Der Hannoveraner: “A son of the Argentan son Al Capone captivated the audience with his outstanding trot.” Recently, he has shown successfully in the hunter ring.

Dam EM Revel earned a 10 for jumping ability and an 8 on technique at her MPT. As a yearling, Revel won her class at the Lexington dressage breed show. Revel’s dam, EM Dianadea, competed successfully on the Virginia show hunter circuit before retiring to the life of a broodmare. This mare line already has a proven production record with Arrian. In 1999, Dianadea’s Arrian son, Atail, was Reserve Champion Young Horse at the USDF East Coast Breeders Championship.

Aragon has a friendly, sensible nature. From her size now, it appears that she is going to be quite large when she matures. Given her temperament and the talent from both sides of the pedigree, she should be a good riding horse for a tall person. AND she should be able to jump.

Carlyle (Contendro/Donaumonarch[Trak]/Grande)

$12,500

DOB: 5/23/03    Bay  Colt
Contact: Marefield Meadows, marefield@earthlink.net

Carlyle’s sire, the Holsteiner Contendro, was approved for Hannover and leased by the State Stud soon after he won the Adelheidsdorf private SPT in 2000 with a final score of 144.70 (Dr-131.09; J-147.29). These scores plus his correct conformation and beautiful type have earned him popularity among German breeders.

On Carlyle’s bottom line: Grandam Ginette was in the program for breeding Hanoverian show jumpers. Ginette is also the grandam of Betsy LaBelle's Audrey, Mare Champion, Reserve Mature Horse Champion, High-Score Hanoverian, winner of the Hanoverian IBC and East Coast Mare Champion in the USDF Finals at DAD 2003.

The half-Thoroughbred Trakehner Donaumonarch comes from a mare family that won the 1995 German Federal Mare Show.

Carlyle's dam December’s firstborn, EMC Partita (Pablo), scored 7.66 to tie for 7th place in the US on the 2001 AHS/VhW Inspection Tour and was 10th nationwide in the MPT with a score of 7.5 (8.5 for jumping). December’s next daughter, Reese (Rienzi), was cited as the best mover at her foal inspection and in 2003 became an EMC, earning a 9 for trot at her inspection and 8 for trot, canter and rideability in the MPT.

Carlyle could be a jumper if he is true to his pedigree; or his movement could suggest a dressage career. He is muscular, athletic and has a noble presence. He is changing daily and on his best days he looks as if he might be a legitimate stallion prospect.

Rimer (Rienzi/Weltmeyer/Don Camillo)

Contact Erin for Price

DOB: 3/13/99  16H  Chestnut  Gelding
Contact: Erin Sweeney, erin_sweeney@earthlink.net

Rimer's dam, EM Winterset is by the dressage producer Weltmeyer. On the bottom of her pedigree are the two jumping lines of Don Carlos and Widerhall. Rienzi, Rimer's sire, also carries an interesting mix of bloodlines with sire Raphael – most noted for producing jumpers – and dam SPS Bounty, who is by another noted dressage sire Bolero. Bounty's dam, Lomella, is full sister to the versatile producer Lanthan .

The all-around athleticism suggested by his pedigree was borne out when Rienzi finished his SPT with the highest score for any participating Hanoverian of his year and earned almost equal scores for jumping and dressage. His offspring are also demonstrating the same versatility. Rafferty, who comes from the same crop as Rimer, has already won classes and even a show championship in the hunter ring for his new owners. Two daughters from the crop of 2000, EMC Reese and Mo Swanson's Reynah (bred by Pat Limage) are impressive movers. Raphaea '99 and Judy Hedreen's 2-year-old stallion prospect Remington have been champions in the USDF Breeders Series. Vanessa Carlson's Roccoco was champion of her foal inspection in 2002 while Rhadius (bred by Mo Swanson) and Rara Avis were the reserve colt and reserve filly champions, respectively, of their PA foal inspection the same year.

Rimer impressed trainer Erin Sweeney immediately with his strong topline and natural cadence. When she started his early training, she was so taken with his concentrated mind and eager willingness that Erin declared Rimer to be a solid FEI dressage prospect. Now that Erin has been working with Rimer longer and some of her hunter/jumper colleagues have tried him, it seems that Rimer has huge appeal in that area as well. The all-around versatility from his pedigree is being realized in Rimer's talent for both dressage and over a show hunter course.

No known physical problems. Recent X-rays available.

EM Electra (Eklatant/Argentan/Woermann)

SOLD

DOB: 4/30/90  16.3H  Chestnut  Broodmare
Contact: Marefield Meadows, marefield@earthlink.net

Congratulations to Chris Rush, Fair Winds Farm, Warrenton, VA

Electra’s thoroughbred-influenced sire, Eklatant, has produced mares that have frequently appeared in the pedigrees of Verden auction horses and stallion prospects. The bottom of her pedigree combines three solid foundation lines.

Electra was top mare at her inspection where she earned an overall 8. Contributing to that score were 8s for her correctness, saddle position, frame, hindlegs and walk.

She has matched particularly well with Bolero blood in the past, producing two colts by Bordeaux who were pronounced stallion prospects at their foal inspections. Rafferty by Rienzi (Raphael/Bolero), a typey 4-year old, sold as a hunter earlier in 2003 and has already won classes and a show championship for his new owner.

Electra sells in foal to Dauphin (Donnerhall/Feiner Stern), a typey black on lease to Celle. Last breeding date: 7/2/03

EM Winterset (Weltmeyer/Don Camillo/Widerhall)

SOLD

DOB: 5/4/89  16.3+H  Bay  Broodmare
Contact: Marefield Meadows, marefield@earthlink.net

Congratulations to Chris Rush, Fair Winds Farm, Warrenton, VA

Winterset is from Weltmeyer’s first foal crop. On the dam’s side of her pedigree are the jumping lines of Don Carlos and Widerhall. At her inspection, Winterset received a score of 9 on her trot. Her trot at the MPT was graded as 8 and she received a 9 on her canter. She also achieved an 8 on rideability.

Winterset's production record has been equally impressive. First foal Petruccio (Parabol) returned to training in 2003 after a long lay-up and has moved up the levels rapidly, earning scores up to the mid 60s at 3rd Level under co-owner Erin Sweeney. Daughter Piper (Pablo), owned by Mo Swanson, has produced well with Gold Luck: Piper’s daughter Ghabor was top filly of her 2000 inspection and became elite eligible with an inspection score of 7.16 in 2003; son Ghlenlivet sold to an FEI rider as a foal and came out at Training Level as a 3-year old with scores in the low to mid 70s. Winterset’s Arrian daughter, Athene Nike, earned her EMC in 1999. Londonderry daughter Laural, owned and bred by Bettie and Steve Carroll, was champion mare at her inspection site with an overall 8, and was also Filly Champion and Young Horse Reserve Champion at the NCDCTA Breeding Show at Raleigh in 2003. Winterset’s Rienzi son Rimer is considered by trainer Erin Sweeney to have FEI potential. Hunter trainers who have tried him think Rimer has a promising future in that discipline.

Winterset sells in foal to Dauphin (Donnerhal/Feiner Stern), a typey black who stands at Celle. Last breeding date: 4/5/03

EM Mabb (Maronjo/Lortzing/Wenzel)

SOLD

DOB: 5/19/97  16.2H  Gray  Mare
Contact: Erin Sweeney, erins@cstone.net

Congratulations to Suzie Quest, Chapel Hill, NC.

Mabb's sire, Maronjo, was winner of the first AHS 100-day SPT with an overall score of 138.06 (DR-133.25, J-136.91). Dam EM Lorelei earned an overall 8 at her inspection (trot-8, walk-9). At her MPT, Lorelei’s final score was 7.33 – with a 9 in jumping ability. In 1994, Lorelei earned a score of 90 to become Champion Mare, DAD.

Mabb’s dam line has produced both jumpers and dressage competitors. Lorelei’s great-grandam SPS Alina is the grandam of Wanderer; Lorelei's mother, SPS Wischnu, is the dam of Fontainebleu, winner of the 1992 Verden stallion licensing and currently a top-placing competitor in Germany at FEI dressage.

In 2000, Mabb achieved a final score of 7.78 to earn the Engler-Friedlaender Memorial Trophy for High-Score MPT of that year. Contributing to the final tally was a score of 10 for rideability and Mabb has since proven to be a most rideable horse for those who have leased her. She had her first foal this year to confirm her EM status. After the colt was weaned, Mabb started back in training as if she had never stopped her riding career, further confirming her great rideability.
