Arrian was selected to match the Marefield herd and bring to the program more of the A-line blood–which we especially value in breeding for fillies when it comes through the strong broodmare sire Argentan. A pedigree that also carried a refining Thoroughbred influence and his modern type were combined with movement that recommended Arrian to us and additionally gained outside attention. The December 1994 Der Hannoveraner described: “A son by the Argentan son Al Capone captivated his audience with his outstanding trot.” The following spring, Arrian was Young Horse Champion and winner of the Hanoverian IBC, Port Jervis. In the fall of 1995, Arrian passed the 100-Day AHS Stallion Performance Test at November Hill Farm.

A NEW LOCATION

After several years in training, during which time he did not actively stand at stud, Arrian resumed his breeding career in 2002 when he moved to Vanessa Carlson’s Woodridge Farm in Claremore, OK. Arriving in the late summer of 2001, Arrian quickly announced his presence by winning the High Point Hanoverian Award and the Champion Mature Horse title at the GCC/USDFBC Breed Show. Later at the Mid-States USDF Breeders Championships, he was named Reserve Champion Mature Horse. While at Vanessa’s, Arrian was competed in hunters during the 2002 season–a performance career change that he has considered “play time.”

Given the nature of his primary duties at Woodridge, Arrian’s most outstanding achievement has been his successful first season in the breeding shed–with a 100% conception rate. This was a particularly impressive record since many of the mares covered had poor histories and were not considered good breeding risks.
