THE RECORD
The Westphalian Raphael is the first non-Hanoverian to warrant a cover story in Der Hannoveraner (February 2000 issue). Although known primarily for his jumping talent (130 in the 2003 Breeding Values Index) from Ramiro, Raphael also scores above average in breeding values for dressage (119 in 2003). Rienzi’s dam, SPS Bounty, is by the dressage producer Bolero. Her dam, Lomella, is full sister to the long-time Celle stallion Lanthan, who gained a reputation as a sire for refining and for his sporthorse capabilities.
Rienzi proved himself to be a carrier of the talent from each side of his pedigree–and something of an all-around sporthorse–when he aquitted himself respectably in both disciplines at the 1998 Federation 100-Day Stallion Performance Performance Test. He earned the highest overall final score for any participating Hanoverian of that year and achieved second placement for Hanoverians in jumping and dressage.

2003 SHOW SEASON
Rienzi has not been actively promoted or bred but the consistent quality of the few offspring he has sired persuaded us to stand him at Judy Hedreen’s Sylvan Farm/North Star Farm facility in Arlington, WA in 2003. Under Judy’s management and guided by rider Morgan Barrows, Rienzi also had his first concentrated competition season last year.
At the NWDC/Great American USDF Dressage Championships (10/3-5/03) Morgan and Rienzi won the 2nd Level Freestyle Championship class with a 68.646% and came in 2nd in the 2nd Level Championship with a 62.843%. By the end of the show season, Rienzi had earned the titles of USDF Region 6 Second Level Freestyle Champion, Northwest Second Level Freestyle Champion and he was winner of the Northwest Cup.
Rienzi’s show record for the 2003 season earned him 15th place at 2nd Level with an average of 67.549% in the USDF Dressage Horse of the Year Awards and gave him a 3rd-place standing at 2nd Level-Open division in the American Hanoverian Society Year-end Awards.
